Our thoughts are with Deb and Stan at this difficult time. We will miss Salty with his strong determination and sense of humour. I can still hear his words to ‘Proud Mary’ in my head playing at the Tap Room. Salty taught me the ‘ropes’ as a graduate teacher, his ‘words of wisdom’ will be with me for life. ‘Give an inch they will take a mile Cole!’ I will miss the opportunity to catch up for a drink and a yarn. My chats with Peter were always entertaining. Once, when he saw me running at school, he said “Rachael, you have to do this job in a pace that you can manage… And you have to do it in your own skin. There’s no other way to get through it!” Thank you Peter, for being you! Thanks for coming and playing your songs in my classrooms. The last one I remember was a ‘Ballad’. I worked with Salty’s at Castlemaine SC from 1996 to 2011. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
Always loved having a chat with him. Full of character. Loved working with him and hearing his views. A really good man. We will miss his dry humour. They threw away the mould. RIP Salty.
Will miss the yarns at the Rail, and your jokes…especially the funny ones !! Can’t wind you up about the Bluebaggers anymore !! Too soon, too sad…

Peter has led an amazing and inspiring life and it has been a pleasure to know him as a teacher and a colleague. A life taken too early; rest in peace Peter!
It was great having Salty around in the music department when I started teaching at CSC in 2004. He was super passionate about Southern American music and was always up for a yarn. I enjoyed helping him out with some of his music recordings and will never forget his stories and character. Lots of love to all those close to him and in his family. One of a kind.
Salty was a great friend and a lot of fun to play music with. His dry, somewhat brutal wit would always caused me to laugh .
I will miss him driving the two of us down to the Guildford Pub and muttering while he drove. I never understood a word he was saying but I’m sure it was profound. Stan, your dad was THE man.

Sad to read of Peter’s death. Always good for a laugh and interesting conversation. A good teacher despite, or perhaps because, he did not take himself too seriously. Sincere condolences Deb. RIP Salty.
So shocked to hear the news of Salty’s passing. He interviewed me and gave me my position at Castlemaine Education Centre, when he was on the board of management there. We then worked at school for many years, and he taught my son there. Deb and Stan, I can’t begin to know what you are going through, but my heart, thoughts and prayers are for you. A passionate man with definite ideas.
We have wonderful memories of Peter in many roles- teacher, colleague, musician, raconteur, and most of all, a good friend. Lots of ‘Salty-isms” will live on in our family folklore, and will bring us many smiles. Our deepest sympathy to you Deb and Stan, with love from Ken, Lynda, Tom and Anna.

Salty was a remarkable man, possessed of both great intellect and a steadfast devotion to his principles. As a teacher he has influenced and inspired me in ways I cannot begin to express. My deepest condolences to Deb and Stan on this tragic loss.
It is hard to come to terms with Peter’s death. Salty was a good friend, terrific colleague, and fellow musician for many years in Central Victorian Bands. Salty and I collaborated, played, recorded, solved the mysteries of education and had the odd beer together. I appreciated his honesty very much and his death came too soon. It is very difficult to believe that Peter has left us. Salty was a colleague, musical partner and friend. We performed together in several successful bands in Central Victoria and I had the pleasure of teaching with him in Castlemaine. I knew you as a teacher in the 1980’s , and as a colleague. Loved that acid wit and endless stories . My love to Deb and Stan . I know Salty was your world . My deepest condolences and love to you and your extended family
I worked with Salty for many years. I always appreciated his ability to cut through the ‘dross’, whenever issues arose that threatened to pursue a silly resolution that would benefit no one, especially not the students. His comments often ensured we didn’t miss what really mattered. Salty’s was always a clear and sensible perspective; he wasn’t afraid to say things that needed to be said.
And then there was the music! I think of Salty, and I think of him with his beloved guitar. Thank you Salty for happily and heartwarmingly singing me ‘Carrickfergus’ after yet another request, and for bringing up the tears of memory, as I’m sure that song was supposed to do. Your rendition always ‘nailed it’.
Much, much love to Deb, and to Stan, and Salty’s extended family, at this difficult time. I’m glad to have known him as a friend, and as a much appreciated colleague for more years than I can count.
