Gerry Jamnikar

1st December 1962 - 9th September 2020

My heart, my soul mate, my partner in crime, my best friend, my only ever true love, Gezza.

30 years we celebrated and lived life together, through tough times and good, you were always

able to make me laugh and put a smile on my face.

I can still hear you yell “Come here Jacka Boy” in the tone you used.

We have been fugitives running from the law, to living in such remote places, that it took 2 hours to find a shop,

but we lived to tell the story.

We never had much but each other, and that was just enough.  I always knew and so did everyone else, his 2nd love was his boat.  Peace and serenity is what Gezza loved the most about fishing on his boat.  When his first boat was stolen it was like losing a child, until the next big boat came along, and the grin from ear to ear was back.

His love for having a beer won him many VB prizes.  From TVs to a “you beaut esky” with the VB logo on it.  Mind you he had entered around 150 entries that VB wrote to him to say “You can win no more prizes, stop entering our competition”.  He just laughed and kept entering.

I could go on all day talking about good and funny times together, but I think you get it that I really did love Gerry Jamnikar.

I wrote your name in the sand,

but the waves washed it away,

then I wrote it in the sky,

but the wind blew it away.

so I wrote it in my heart,

and that’s where it will stay.

Love you Gezza.

All my love Jo.

Can’t believe your gone Gerry. It was so fantastic to see you at our cousins reunion at Dadswells Bridge. Who would have thought that in exactly 5 years on you would no longer be with us. Will always remember your cheeky smile and easy going demeanour. Till we meet again cuz.

My Uncle Gerry you certainly were the light of our lives growing up. I remember watching you cautiously because lets be honest, through a child’s eyes you were damn scary looking, but it came with a softness that was so unexpected, and an unconditional love you were unable to hide. Sneaky bowls of ice-cream, the best pair of sunglasses I’ve ever owned, cheeky comments about Nan on her perch. Wow, you made an impression. You always had a plan, even if it wasn’t a good one. “Gerry built” always did the job, no matter if it was the bricked up BBQ pit, or the concrete in your backyard booby picture infested shed! You made me realise that being different from the rest wasn’t a curse, it was a blessing, and I’ll never forget your kind words on that subject. <3 Thank you for being you. Thank you for giving my teething toddler an upside down cold closed VB to sooth her gums. (Even if I was mortified at the time, you were right, it certainly DID work) Thank you for not paying the bill at the Hard Rock Cafe the morning of my Wedding Ceremony, because you so innocently just thought the people in Melbourne were just so lovely, and didn't ask you to pay! I'll never forget how you explained how they were all waving at you while you walked out with Aunty Jo, thanking them for the good time you'd had! (I still laugh at this on our Anniversary 16 years later) Your beautiful words that day sitting in front of the Willows I hold dear to my heart. The world will not be the same without you in it. To my Aunty Jo, you were his moon and his stars. Our hearts are with you today for the loss of your soul mate. He will continue to 'marinade' you from the heavens <3

    If he should go tomorrow
    It would never be goodbye
For he has left his heart with you
    So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within him,
shall reach you from the stars.
You'll feel it from the heavens,
and it will heal your scars.

    We love you dearly.
Kim, Mark, Mikayla, Spencer and Bianqua xxx

I’ll never forget the fond memories i have over the years with you and my dear Joe, from the BBQs, you burnt the bloody chicken! to sitting down and having a yarn and a beer (always a VB) and how you made us laugh with jacka boy, when id come and stay with you and joe i always felt welcome and you always made us laugh, as for your cookin… MAN COULD YOU BLOODY COOK! i wish i could have tried your chicken noodle soup it was apparently the best ever! but i got to eat your homemade dimsims and your steak and those were my favorite.

Gerry, It was a pleasure knowing you and seeing your smiling face especially when the cakes and sandwiches were bought into the logistics area. You were always thinking of the team and how you could assist. Nothing was ever too much trouble. You will be missed by the boys you worked with and also the wider guys and gals from supply chain. I know that you will be enjoying a beer on your boat. R.I.P

  20. Simone Van Leeuwen says:

    Uncle Gezza

I was thinking about you this morning and the memories I have. A couple of things came to mind. I remember being in end of year 6 and being harassed outside the bus stop by some guys. I ran crying to Nans and you came out and gave them a serve….I’m sure they shit themselves, as you were a big burly bloke covered in tatts. But I felt safe and relieved to have someone like you.

My other thought, much later on, was you living in Castlemaine and using the crossbow in the backyard! I won’t go into details but if anyone remembers it was a cracker of a story. Oh and the go cart…OUCH. Then there was the fire – not sure how you survived that one! and the tattoo with the naked lady and her lopsided boobs after your accident.

You lived life to its fullest and will be missed.
    Till we all meet again.
    Love ya.
Simone, Trev, Jaymi and Teegan. xx

  21. Brittany Hodge says:

RIP Gessa – Your neighbouring friends in Gingell Street- Pat Genny and son Joshua
