A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held in the Chapel of Mount Alexander Funerals,
12 Campbell Street, Castlemaine on Thursday 2nd March commencing at 11.00am.
A private cremation has been held for Betty.

Mum it has been over a week since you left us, and I still go to ring you each day.
Although your daily struggles had become too much for you, it is still horrid to contemplate life without you.
A mother’s love is unconditional and you certainly showered us with unconditional love.
I thank you for all the happy memories we made together.

I enjoyed visits to Betty in a work capacity whilst Robert was still at home.
She was a stoic, quiet achiever with a great sense of humour, who was always appreciative and lovely to work with.

Dear Gran / Great Gran,
You were one of a kind! Thanks for all of the unconditional love you gave your entire family. A more kind-hearted person you could never meet…
You gave us so many great childhood memories such as trips to the pool, hot springs, the Butterfly House Cafe, card games and watching old recorded videos.
I will never forget all of the effort you made for me when we watched the AFL Grand Final together decking out your lounge room and cooking up footy food to make me feel like I was at the game.
I will miss visiting you, our regular phone calls, giant hugs, eating all of your dried apricots and our “surprises” for dessert.
I hope you are enjoying your next adventure with Pa by your side.

I can’t imagine we will ever eat another Chinese meal, shuffle a deck of cards or heartily devour an ice cream or peppermint chocolate, without thinking of you?
I am forever grateful for the much-needed care and love you generously provided to me while I was experiencing a serious health issue early in my married life. Your unwavering compassion and support helped me get through this difficult period and is not forgotten.
While it is difficult to say goodbye to someone so dear, I find comfort in knowing that you lived a long, fulfilling life, caring for others and making a positive impact on so many people, particularly my family.
Your memory will live on through the many lives you touched with your kindness, compassion, and most importantly, unconditional love.

I will always cherish the memories of coming to visit you and Pa in Castlemaine, going on picnics, hearing all your stories about your travels, hiding in your pantry, playing cards with you and laughing at your ridiculous stockpiles of toilet paper (you were clearly ahead of the times).
I have always been in awe of the endless amounts of love, kindness, generosity and humour that you shared with everyone around you.
You were the best role model that I will forever look up to.

It’s so hard to accept that I will never get to hear your voice again or have another laugh with you.
You were a wonderful Gran, so loving, generous and kind. You had the best sense of humour and always made me laugh.
I cherish the childhood memories of picnics & bush walks with you and Pa, riding the three wheeler bike around your backyard
and later memories of long chats, lunch dates and card games with you.

It has taken me a while to write as your passing was sudden and I was coming in to work on night shift to show you another picture of my grandson.
Our many late-night chats ended up being not just company for you but special for both of us!
Your love of reading, hot milk, black tea, chocolate (especially our mutual love for Daim Chocolate) and the odd biscuit and especially a hug good night became our routine.
I respected how you remained true, determined and steadfast and had a good laugh with the right cartoon in the paper.
I know I was your nurse, but I was also your friend, and I will always remember you fondly.

Dear Alan, Jan & Families
My late Mother in Law Lorna Evans, was a very close friend of Betty during WW2 and for many, many years later.
I never tired of the tales about how as members of the Power House Women’s Auxialliary they would entertain Australian & International servicemen that found themselves on leave in Melbourne with nothing to do. Ladies like Betty & Lorna would make their otherwise idle time more enjoyable by darning their socks, writing letters home or acting as dance partners etc. at the Power House clubrooms on Melbourne’s Albert Park Lake. Lorna kept a wonderful scrap book of newspaper cuttings covering those times. In her latter years Lorna was to leave her Caulfield home live in Castlemaine close by, prior to being cared for by my wife Lynne (Lorna’s daughter) at Guildford.
Sadly, Betty and Lorna were never to realise that they were living their sunset years so close to one another. When Lorna passed away her daughter Lynne joined a local Carers Group only to find a fellow member named Betty Kellet. The connection was made and Lynne was always keeping in touch with Betty on the telephone or at Carers Group gatherings. Following Lynne’s passing in 2020, Betty and I continued the telephone contact until some 12 months ago.
I was saddened to only learn of Betty’s passing two days after her funeral Service.
Betty was such a lovely lady and such a memorable and beautiful part of Lorna & Lynne’s life.
On their behalf, I thank you for those good times and pass on our sympathy to her family & friends.
