In Loving Memory of Mrs Pickett

    Dear Mrs Pickett,
We’ll miss our daily chats and your cheerful street updates. You were the glue that held all of us neighbours together. I’ll miss bringing you a pie from the farmers market – you always loved those! You always looked so lovely, from your perfectly polished nails to your makeup and bright smile. The street won’t be the same without your warmth and sunny outlook. You were so lucky to have Mary watching over you every day – a true guardian and friend.
    With love,
    Vivienne Forbes and Carl Costolloe

Dearest Alva, your laughter still echoes in my heart, but I’ll miss hearing it in person. It’s been my privilege to have known you for 20+ years. Your love and kindness was a blessing, your memory a treasure. How lucky you were having Mary looking after you in good times and bad she was your guardian angel 👼.
You’re with your Des and Trevor now. Rest in peace my dear friend.
    June 🕯️ ❤️

The end of a long Era to Mrs P. I too, were born and raised in Mitford Street and resided there for 59 years. My earliest memory was when I accidentally rode my Bicycle into the Elwood Canal. I was crying loud and Mrs P came to my rescue. She helped me get out and asked where I was sore – in which I wasn’t but was crying and said “My Mum’s going to kill me for putting a hole in my new White Jeans. Mrs P had a bit of a laugh, as she always did….and many of those laughs were at the end of discussions about my Dad. Many more memories of us kids riding Mini Bikes in the Park and down to Point Ormond….the things we got away with back then. Also – the Firecrackers we used to throw at each other (kids). As a teenager – Trevor used to take me to the Marine Hotel before I had my licence….and occasionally down the coast for a surf….rolling around in the back of his HR Panel Van…..I started drinking at 17……much to our parents disgust…..but we all survived. The memories of 7 floods over my years there will live on forever. I was jealous of the Picketts as they had Insurance and had flood damage repaired and replaced. Our family didn’t have Insurance and Dad just hosed down and hung the Carpets out on the Clothesline and put them back down. In later years when Mrs P had a fall and fractured her hip – I said “You’d do anything just to have a holiday (as a joke)”. I visited her in the Rehab Centre and she was having a ball – she loved it. Mrs P was well looked after by her family, Robyn Gray (Dec) and Mary.
Thanks for being a part of my life and the memories.
    Dale Price

Dear Alva – such a special lady. Kind, funny with a wicked sense of humour.
I’ll always remember you standing at your letterbox and chatting to passers by, which is how we met.
Your community is saddened by your passing.

  6. Kathryn Anderson says:

Dear Alva, I was so fortunate to meet you through our lovely friend, Megan. I’ll miss our chats and your birthday morning tea, with Victoria sponge (though I think we might just continue to do that in July in your memory). Your knowledge of the area and vast memories were always a joy to hear about. Your community will miss you, very much.
Sincere condolences to Debra and family.
    Kathryn
