VALE Gerda Maria Gardner
Gerda was a big hearted woman who really loved children, especially babies. I think her last 8 years at Mountview nursing home in Maldon were happy enough. She had lots of little Maldon cherubs visit her before the panademic hit as there was a terrific programme between Maldon Primary School and the Maldon hospital. Gerda was a favourite to many as revealed by all the little children’s drawings and special notes and letters which were pinned all over her wall.
I know from my many, many visits to her quarters up the hill here in Maldon, she was truly cherished, loved and cared for by many staff members – the nursing staff, the volunteers and the food services staff. People always told us ‘Gerda was one their favourites’ She was a bit cheeky. I think it was her capacity to share her joy for life that was so infectious that even complete strangers could not help but be pulled into the whirlpool of love bombing, squeezing and arm gripping that were well known behaviours of this wonderful a nonagenarian.
Gerda shared her birth date with my mother. It is so very strange that they have passed away with in 10 weeks of each other. May they both rest in peace.

Heart felt condolences to the extended Gardner family.
Gerda was an absolute treasure at Maldon Hospital.
It’s just not the same without her.
