One response to “Maureen Joan Smith”

  1. Lyn Waters - Secretary Breathless Buddies - Bendigo says:

In memory of Maureen Smith 27.6.1935 – 1.10.2025
It is with heartfelt gratitude and deep respect that we remember Maureen Smith, a founding member of Breathless Buddies – Bendigo. Maureen was with us from the very beginning — when the group first came together in the early 2000s, started by a few railway workers, mostly men, looking for connection, understanding, and support in living with chronic lung conditions.
From those modest beginnings, Maureen brought warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment. She was not only a vital part of shaping the group’s purpose and direction, but she also made sure everyone — new members and old — felt welcomed, heard, and supported. Her compassion was as steady as her presence; through the ups and downs of her own journey, Maureen never stopped showing up for others.
Her legacy is woven into the very fabric of Breathless Buddies — in our values of community, empathy, and perseverance. Maureen’s spirit will always remain with us:
in every meeting, every shared story, and every breath we take together.
We honour Maureen not just for her role in helping to build this group, but for the way she helped build each of us — with kindness, courage, and grace.
She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
    With love and gratitude,
    Breathless Buddies – Bendigo
