    To My Friend, Peter Damen

It is with deep respect and heartfelt affection that I pay tribute to my dear friend, Peter Damen. Peter was one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever known, and I feel truly fortunate to have shared part of my life in Adelaide with him as my best mate.

When my wife and I first arrived in Adelaide, everything was new and unfamiliar. At that time, Peter welcomed us with such warmth and generosity. I will never forget how he took us to the wildlife park, not only to show us the beauty of South Australia, but also to help us feel at home in a place that was still so new to us. That simple act of kindness spoke volumes about the type of person he was — thoughtful, caring, and always willing to give his time to others.

Peter’s thoughtfulness extended to my family in remarkable ways. When my daughter was born, he even posted her a little kangaroo toy all the way to China. She is now 12 years old and living happily in Sydney, yet that gift still holds a special place in our hearts. It is a lasting reminder of Peter’s generosity and the way he touched our lives, no matter the distance.

I will miss Peter. The memories of the time we spent together — the laughter, the conversations, and his caring presence — remain with me always. He had a rare gift of making ordinary days brighter, and his friendship continues to mean a great deal to me.

Peter will always be remembered for his kindness, his integrity, and the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. His friendship enriched my life in ways words cannot fully capture, and I will always treasure the memories we shared.

  4. Jack and Jose' . Damen says:

It was sad news we received in Canada from my sister in law Adri Damen, that her eldest son Peter died. Peter was the name sake of my
brother Piet Damen, we grew up together in The Netherlands. I emigrated to Canada and Piet to Australia. It is very hard to deal with this sad news, so far away from you all. My dear family friends our thoughts are with you all, especially with Ell and sons Jack and Mark and Mother Adri. We will try to attend the funeral on the internet.
Lots of love to your family,
from Damen family in Canada, Uncle Jack and Aunt Jose.

  5. Helen George says:

I shall remember Peter as a kind and generous soul who would enjoy a laugh over a good glass of wine and a great meal. Ellen your union was one to admire.
You two were the perfect fit and I’m sorry for the loss of your best friend. Love to you all during this difficult time.

    Beste Familie,
Gecondoleerd met dit plotselinge verlies! Ik lees hier boven mooie dingen over mijn neef, die ik eigenlijk niet ken. Ik wens iedereen heel veel sterkte.

  8. Trish Bulluss says:

    To our mate Peter,
We loved our catch ups & pop ins. So easy and cosy! Whether a coffee, beer or a glass of wine, we enjoyed our chats.
We will bottle the “wrong way red” dear friend, and raise a glass for we know you will be there in spirit.
    Forever your friends,
    Trish & Dave.

  9. Chris Netherway says:

I don’t know how you measure friendship or even if you should. Pete was my friend of 50 years. He was my best man, and I was his.
It could be months between chats, sometime years but when we did catch up, it was just picking up from where we left off. I shall miss that, and I shall miss Pete.
    Rest is peace my friend.
    Chris Netherway

  10. Evie Hoal and Phil Ellett says:

Wish we had had the privilege to have met Peter.
    Evie Hoal and Phil Ellett

  11. Ulrich Beer says:

Peter’s unexpected sudden passing were sad news. We did have a couple of rather long catch up conversations in the last year over the phone, after having lost contact for years. We shared a two bedroom house at the Junction in Newcastle, for $80 a week, unheard of nowadays!! He was easy and fun to get along with, in other words a good Mate. It didn’t matter if we were drinking at a local pub, gosh there were a number of them, or hiking on the Barrington Tops on a rainy weekend, the mood was always positive and often full of laughs.
Though Peter, it was a privilege to have known you.
    Rest in Peace
    Ueli

It was always a delight to stop and chat with him. Peter will be greatly missed.
    Phillipa

  16. Mark Howlett says:

    Pete
You were another of life’s good ones taken from us far to soon.
You had many years ahead of you and so much more to give…….life can be cruelly unfair at times.
Your time in the UK with Ell comes up in conversations so much and we will make sure that those conversations continue, even if it’s at your expense haha.
You showed so much love and respect to Mum, Dad and Sue and they all thought the world of you as well as me, Mare, Rance and Michael.
I was absolutely shaken to the core when I received Ell’s text………we certainly weren’t expecting news like that.
Ell has so much love and support from all corners of the globe at this sad time.
Pete, it was such a pleasure and privilege to share time with you on this little rock of ours, thank you for just being you…….kind, generous and as funny as…….!!!!!
You will be greatly missed and until we meet up again at that big beer fridge in the sky sleep well mate xxx
    Mark Howlett
