Ron passed away peacefully at St John of God Bendigo Hospital on 29 December 2020 aged 87 years. The oldest living male Cochrane of his family.
Ron was born in Ballarat and married Lorna O’Brien (dec) in 1956. Ron spent six years in the Navy from 1951 to 1957, a Returned Serviceman serving during the Malayan conflict and on various ships including the HMS Cerberus, Australia, Watsonia, Lonsdale, Quadrant, Tobruk, Sydney and Voyager in various roles.
Settling in Wangaratta, Ron played football for the Wangaratta Rovers and Tarrawingee Football Club and worked for PMG and Telecom before taking on a position in Papua New Guinea for management of the installation of telecommunications throughout various sectors of PNG.
He lived all his married life in Wangaratta, raising his family, until recently moving to the Bendigo district.
Ron was a bushy who loved going fishing with his mates up the Darling and Murrumbidgee rivers and shooting with his brother in law, Johnny.
Loving husband of Lorna (dec), loved father of Denise, Michelle and Jennine, father in law of Nick, David and Sam, grandfather of Kim, Nicole, Ken, Adrian, Rebecca, Matthew, Sarah and Samantha; great grandfather of Bella, Liam and Ronnie; loved brother of Irene and John (dec).
A private cremation has been held for Ron.
