Funeral Planning for the future

Organising your funeral is possibly the hardest thing your children will ever have to do…..help them by making it a little easier.

When you think about it, pre planning is something we do all the time. We put money aside for travel, for retirement and other important events.  So it makes sense to approach planning ahead for a funeral in exactly the same way.  Pre planning your funeral really is easy to do with us at Mount Alexander Funerals, we don’t make it sad or sombre, just simple, sensible and practical.

By pre planning your own funeral, you get to choose the type and style of service you want for the future.  You decide how much will be spent and you can safeguard your family against the added stress of finding the finance during what will be a difficult time for them.

It is also a good idea to have an open discussion with your family about your preferences. This way everyone is aware of your wishes and knows to contact us at Mount Alexander Funerals when the time comes.

Is the money secure when you pre pay a funeral?

At Mount Alexander Funerals, we place your investment into a secure, regulated fund with Australian Friendly Society who have been caring for the financial needs of Australians since 1969.

Your Bendigo Funeral Bond is a capital guaranteed investment plan designed solely to accumulate funds to finance the cost of your or your loved one’s funeral. The account balance cannot be withdrawn prior to death and must be applied towards the payment of the selected person’s funeral.

Do I have to pay the whole amount or can I pay by instalments?

You may wish to make a once off payment of the whole amount of a pre paid funeral plan, or you can pay by instalments.

By signing a direct debit request, you can authorise us to arrange for funds to be debited from your account, either fortnightly or monthly.  If you have died prior to completely paying for the pre paid funeral plan, then the funds in your trust account (plus any interest accrued) will be placed towards your funeral expenses.

What if a person cannot apply for themselves?

Sometimes a person no longer has the capacity to manage their own financial affairs, or is temporarily unable to do so for other reasons.  Usually they will have appointed a Power of Attorney (POA) to manage their financials, and this Attorney can apply for a funeral bond on behalf of the person.

Advantage for Pensioners

The Funeral Bond is designed to help you qualify for both income and asset test exemptions, if you receive a means-tested pension or benefit from either Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  However you may wish to consult with Centrelink or DVA to determine your eligibility.

Changing your Funeral Director.

Should you wish to change your funeral director, anywhere in Australia, it is possible to re-assign your Funeral Bond or change your nominated funeral director.  You will need to contact the client services team at Bendigo Funeral Bonds to discuss the process.
