Dad, a life well lived is like a powerful work of art, beautifully created and remembered by all.
You were kind, creative, loyal, intelligent, tenacious and truly an original.
Your love and absolute pride in your 3 grandchildren was a gift. You had a unique and special relationship with each.
It was lovely to see your delight in your great grandson Salvador.
You introduced me to the world, its history and its wonders, everything was possible.
You joined our family on so many adventures, these memories are ours forever. You are now on your final journey.

John Leonard Holland 86 years
Dearly loved brother of Barbara, friend of Dick, respected Uncle of Mark, Neal and Janine.
Great Uncle of Jordyn, Lili Pearl, Kaitlyn, Breanna and Aleysha.
John was a gentleman and a gentle man, a caring family man, a talented artist, a dedicated teacher,
a scholarly historian and a true lover of literature and music.
We honour his memory and his valuable contribution to our lives and his community.

John was a loved and special nephew to Gwen. He made her glow.
Jim and family have fond memories of John and are all saddened at his passing.

I shall forever be grateful for the impact he had on me as an awkward and naive teenager… sometimes going above and beyond to guide me through.

Also one of the Flock of Art Students from the Technical College years, I am greatly saddened by John’s departure to Grander Dwellings, however in his wake he leaves an entire community and family all greatly enhanced by the life of this truly unique Family man and loyal supporter of the greater Goldfields and Arts region of Victoria. I know the regard that we always have for each other was again underlined as we sat together in his new residences at the foot of McKenzie’s Hill only months earlier.

We would go out and sketch when he was in Hervey Bay holidaying. The movie were a favourite as was sharing books and newspaper articles from Castlemaine, ot subject he consideredworthy of discussion. We loved these times, and miss his visits north.
His handwriting was beautiful and we looked forward to his correspondence.

Lifetime friends of Ian and Lesley Corrie (both dec).
Godfather to Lyn and “Uncle” to Bruce, Karen and Stephen.
In all of these rolls you proved to be remarkably caring, giving, patient and above all else kind.
The friendship between Ian and John went back over 60 years, from shared interests in their teens until Ian’s death ten years ago.
This friendship extended to both families with both Pauline and Lesley as children came along.
Throughout the decades, the family contact varied, as the Corries tended to move around quite a bit, but the friendship always
remained strong and one that could always be depended upon.
John’s efforts to regularly check and call in on Mum in the last ten years were greatly appreciated by her and the rest of our family.
John’s creativity and love of many Arts was a shared bond with Lesley and one that gave them both great joy.
Vale John – greatly missed and cherished by us all.

John was a much loved and respected teacher to all who attended Castlemaine Tech during his time there. He cared for us all and was always supportive.

John was a rare individual. His talent for art, particularly drawing, was evident through the numerous times he shared his sketchbooks with me and discussed elements of how each finished piece came to be. I learnt later that he would come down to the Macoolama studios each year and wander through mine and my partner’s artwork and offer positive feedback. He had all the traits of a strong teacher – an open mind, the ability to both instruct and listen and had a curiosity of approach, always inquisitive and genuinely interested in what people were saying to him. I had no hesitation sharing examples of my work to John, who was keen to share his interpretations and ideas in return. John understood life to be a never-ending learning pathway and he would study the paper and have a chat to all who were around when he’d come down for coffees.
He gave me the feeling he was always relaxed, at ease and had a mature and knowledgeable outlook on life. He was a shining example of how a well rounded, noble individual carries themselves and his influence on those around him was profound.
John was a great friend to me at Arcare and someone I respected deeply.
He will be sorely missed.

So very sad to learn only today about the passing of my long term friend, teacher and artistic mentor.
As one of my art teachers at Castlemaine tech, John’s early affirmation and encouragement of my talent set the direction of my life as a graphic designer, so I feel I owe him a deep debt of gratitude.
Praying that he’s found God’s peace and that he’s marvelling at all the glorious designs in heaven.
