Thinking of you and your family Phee.
All of the members of the Kaweka Wildflower Reserve committee are very sad to hear of the death of George.
He was an invaluable and generous fount of knowledge about the plants and creatures of the natural world, knowledge which he shared with kindness,
patience and good humour.
He was a great worker, right up until his death, and was an admired and esteemed member of the committee, which he had been on for decades.
He was always pleasant and enjoyable company and was held in great affection.

To the Broadway Family. While l played up as a student in the 70’s l did appreciate the staff once an adult and looking back. I did year 12 when in my 40’s and studied horticulture at Melbourne University while working at Melbourne Zoo. I think Mr Broadway would have appreciated the way l transformed in my adulthood. I was informed of Mr Broadway’s passing via the Castlemaine Field Naturalists updates having been a member before moving to the city. My thoughts are with family and everyone close to
Mr Broadway. A fantastic gentleman.

Dear Phee and family
Castlemaine Landcare Group sends condolences and thanks for the contribution that George made to our work. It was always a pleasure to see him appear because he knew what needed to be done and got straight into it. Even in more recent years, he was the one to hop down the steep slope and start planting in the rocky creek bed and then quietly disappear for other duties of a full day. His knowledge and love of the environment was deep and his charming but unassuming demeanour made him a special human being who will truly be missed.
I remember George as a quiet and unassuming member of our Education Department hostel in Victoria Street, Carlton, in the early ‘fifties.
It is wonderful to read these tributes showing what a great life he enjoyed and how he influenced so many.
I send my sympathy to everyone in his family.
Jim Connelly
Dear Phee and family
I am so so sorry for your loss. George was such a kind and loving man.
I had the privilege to get to know George and Phee whilst living with you for six months. I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel part of the family and I remember that time with great fondness. Mum and Dad often regaled us with tales of their time with you and the Matthews and I know they treasured your friendship.
I also know in my heart that Dad would be deeply saddened by the loss of a true friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Phee and family, particularly on the 11th.

I remember George and Phee well from my student days at Warrnambool High School. George’s parents and sister Valerie were well known to my family.
Other people’s tributes to George ring very true to me despite my memories being of more than six decades ago.
On behalf of the Symons family I offer condolences.

Dear Phee,
One of the first things we did when we arrived in Castlemaine in 1990 was join the Field Naturalists Club. George immediately made us feel very much at home.
We are sure that the Field Naturalists Club will continue as a vibrant part of the community, largely because of the warmth, knowledge and expertise of George Broadway.
Our deepest sympathies.

We are deeply sorry on the passing of Uncle George. Losing a loved one is never easy, and our thoughts are with Auntie Phee and family during this difficult time.
Uncle George was a true gentleman and it’s clear that he will be greatly missed. The impact of such a loss is profound not just on the family but also the community.
Now is the time for reflecting on his life and the memories we shared with him, while we take this opportunity to celebrate his life and the positive influence he had on those around him.
It’s with mixed emotions, from sadness to fondness and even laughter that we all recall the moments shared as we cherish the time spent.
Though Uncle George may no longer be physically present, his impact and influence will continue to live on through those lives he has touched.
Remembering the valuable lessons he imparted, the values he stood for and the legacy he has left.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word, he will be sadly missed.
Tim, Sandra, Jacob and Elisha Ralston
Dear Phee and family, our condolences on the passing of George. Although we only met George a few years ago we enjoyed his company at CFNC meetings and outings and very quickly realised that he had a wealth of knowledge about the flora and fauna of our wonderful area. We often use the index that he created and maintained for the CFNC newsletter. It was extremely moving to listen to the tributes from family and friends at yesterday’s service and to listen to the wonderful music chosen and so beautifully played. Thinking of you at this sad time.
Philip and Judy Hopley
